double boiled soup @ raffles city

Spent about $8 on this set meal in the foodcourt @ raffles city. It's very worth it -- cos i was craving for comfort food, and this fits the bill well esp the lotus root soup. The chicken & chinese sausage rice is quite nice too.

Omu rice @ Bishan

Was lunching with my church frens after sunday service - we spotted this new stall @ the J8 foodcourt and decided to give it a try. I ordered grilled salmon with the omelette-wrapped rice. Salmon is ok, but the 'burnt rice' with red wine sauce is pathetic. Anyway don't think it's value for money.

Dan Ryan's @ Tanglin

My bf is soooo sweet to me this day: it was past lunch hour and he insisted on bringing me to a nice relaxing place for a meal. So he brought me to Dan Ryan's cos it is whole day dining and i haven't been there for quite a while.

Interior

I was quite full so i ordered maryland crabcakes. It was pretty good, but i'm actually not a lover of crabcakes - which taste somewhat like compact Tuna Spread. Heh. Oh, but my bf enjoys ther crabcakes very much! I adored the fries.

Grilled Rainbow trout on rounds of grilled potatoes. This is pretty yummy!

Curry rice @ Velocity

Went to visit Alan's baby girl @ Thomson Medical and my friends suggested to go to the foodcourt @ Velocity. I was damn hungry and to avoid queueing, i decided to have the Curry rice, as the dishes look pretty decent.

I saw an interesting dish but i couldn't figure out what the meat was - so i did the natural and asked the guy. He said it's Pork with Crispy oats and to my amazement, he says it's nice and gave to me FOC. Result: i had 4 dishs and paid about $3. Heh. Thanks for the free food! :P

Pushcart Icecream @ Clarke Quay

Ohh, haha. It has been soooooo long since i had ice-cream from a push cart. It's rather nostalgic, reminding me of secondary school days where the uncle will sell us ice-cream near our school at $0.50 per cup. Ohhh, those were the days. Well, since this cart is parked at the snazzy Clarke Quay (and it's almost a decade from those sec sch days), my bf ended up paying $1.50 for it!

Oh by the way, this is really yummy! It's atap chee, chocolate and coconut i think. Very nice!

Thunder Tea Rice @ China Square

Thunder Tea Rice is a traditional hakka dish, eaten with the bowl of 'algae-looking' soup poured over the mixed vegetables rice. This outlet @ China Square serves one of the best version i've tasted, and somehow the business at their branches in Vivocity & Amoy Food Centre pale in comparison.
Oh by the way, the 'algae-looking' concoction ( as my colleagues put it) is actually made with Green Tea, Basil, Mint, Fuliksum, Chinese Parsley, Coriander, Ginger, Ngal & Sesame.


Oh, the concoction can be rather strong for most 1st timers. But you'll soon find that it's an acquired taste and you'll be able to ask for a stronger than usual dose of the concoction, and pour it over the rice. Yum! OOoooooO, i LOVE it! :) And it's healthy too!

Mum's Pig Stomach Soup

Stemming from Nonya's lineage, my mum's a pretty good cook, esp with all the nonya dishes. But this non-nonya dish got my bf raving so i took a pic for remembrance.

Mum's Pig Stomach Soup. She took almost an entire day to 'clean' the stomach and 'sanitize' it. And it's cooked with fresh stomach, not frozen. For this i avoid eating this soup outside, and patronize only my mum's! yum!

The Viet Inspired Deli @ Raffles City

Since it's opening last year, i've gingerly gave it a try and was hooked on its Baguettes - both the ham & pate version and the grilled chicken one. The baguette is crisp, and bursting with flavors due to its stuffings!

This features grilled chicken baguette.

I like their pungent pate baguette equally :)

Aglio Olio @ China Square Central

Celebrated our last day of freedom with my colleagues : cos our boss is returning after a long 5 weeks of reservist. We walked and walked undecisively and ended up in Aglio Olio, famished.

I ordered their signature aglio olio with bacon. Nice.
Had topped up $2 for Cream of mushroom & lemon tea.

New Zealand Natural @ Suntec

One of my faves: New Zealand Natural. My bf encouraged me to eat this cos it's natural fruit flavor and less unhealthy than the other brands, being 95% to 99% Fat-free. I like some of their flavors such as banana & wild berries.

Promo now: Buy 2 scoops Get 1 scoop free.
Only downside is the scoops are much much smaller than Haato's, about 1/2 portion.
(it looks quite big in the picture, but it's actually very small)

Beppu Menkan @ Suntec

I was a regular of Beppu Menkan @ Far East Square, before the mushrooming of ramen places in that area and all around singapore. Several of my colleagues / ex-colleagues are fans of their famous '8-chilli ramen'. You can choose the level of spiciness from 1,2,4,6 or 8 chilli. Occasionally for convenience (if i dine with my bf), we'll go to the outlet @suntec.

My bf ordered this cha siew ramen, non spicy.

In greed, when i'm hungry i'll order this deep fried chicken spicy ramen. Super value for money at $9.90 (if i didn't remember wrongly). Heh.

Crystal Jade @ Taka

Went to try my gown @ Mandarin Hotel Gallery, bf wanted to treat Poopoo to lunch after she accompanied us to give her professional advice on the gowns. Poopoo wanted light lunch - ended up in Crystal Jade for tim sum.

I love these unique way of serving chee cheong fun: fried with dark sauce, and i love that sesame dip! Super yummy!

PooPoo and bf wanted these chestnut cakes. I'm not a fan of them, but they tasted pretty good.

Char siew buns and fish congee to finish off the 'light' meal.

Haha, saw these funny koala buns @ Giant in Vivocity. Took a picture to show my koala-lover colleague.

Dian Xiao Er @ Vivocity

There's a lack of quality asian food in sentosa, so decided to lunch at Vivocity instead with my mum & aunt. Saw Dian Xiao Er: i always liked their herbal roast duck so we went in.

Tastes of Singapore @ Sentosa

Went with my family to watch the light & sound performance - Images of Singapore. Oh the luge is quite fun, though a little expensive for the price.
Anyway we had a quick dinner @ Tastes of Singapore before the show began.

Haha, the restaurant is empty besides us - bad sign. Brother and bf looking undecisively at the menu - lousy food @ exorbitant prices. Heh.

They don't serve ice water - so we ordered mineral water - SENTOSA mineral water. Heh :)

My aunt ordered chicken rice. Not bad.

My bf ordered their specialty of the day - chilli crab pasta.
Oh man, this tastes HORRIBLE. Yucks. Tasted like some thick noodles in bottled chilli sauce.

My mum ordered this: which turned out to be the most value for money. Fish & Chips: Huge chucks of breaded fish fillets with crinkled cut fries. Couldn't go wrong.

My brother & I ordered the same: Sirloin steak. Not too bad, though portions are quite miserable. It's so thin and so small, i bet my poor brother went hungry after an hour.


Verdict: d ( do skip that chilli pasta...it's a nightmare)

Pasta de Waraku @ Central

I'm being to get enticed by Central, with all the nice quaint Jap restaurants and cafes popping up. The food quality @ Pasta de Waraku is really pretty good, despite my initial reservations. Popped by one saturday and tried the following:



Complimentary salad that comes with every order of pasta. Jap-style with shoyu 'vinaigrette' dressing. Nice!

They offer a WIDE variety of pastas, and also some pizza and side orders.
I chose oyster and bacon carborana spaghetti. Oysters are medium done, and the watery egg york on top is oh so lovely! The sauce is jap-styled and very yummy - unlike some overly creamy sauce served in other places that makes you go jelat after several mouthfuls.

Certainly a place to frequent!

SECOND VISIT

My bf has been craving to go back after he took a bite of my spaghetti the 1st time round - he had already eaten his lunch then so he was too full to order any food, except for an iced coffee.
Finally this is the day! He ordered their specialty pasta, cooked in their jap sauce base. Forgot what this pasta is already *heh*, but looks like some bacon and meat. The fine threads on top are chilli! Oooh, i almost slurp up all his pasta! Hahahaha! SoooooOOO yummy! The base sauce is soOOOO amazing!


I was craving so much for Okonomiyaki, but ended up ordering an Okonomiyaki PIZZA! Cos i thought it was unique and it should be more fulfilling in quantity. But I was praying hard it will not pale in quality, and as it turns out- it didn't disappoint! Ohh, did i say i have a soft spot for watery egg yorks? It's the icing on the cake! Anyway, the crust is oh so thin and crisp, and the ingredients are yummy!

Beard Papa

I love beard papa's cream puffs! The original is good. The strawberry one is good too: with very natural strawberry cream! I'm pleasantly surprised it's not some confectionary artifical flavored cream.


Tried the Choux too. But not as good as the original.


This one's not as satisfying either: some eclair-looking cream puff.

Thai Sweet & Sour Tofu @ AMK

My dad was raving that this Congee Stall near my house serves very fresh & soft tofu. So finally one day i decided to order to try since i had congee there. My gosh, it was really crisp on the outside and on the inside: ohhh sooooo soft and it melted in my mouth! Yum! But the sauce is a common blend of bottled chilli and some lemon. Worth a try!
