Aussie food @ Tanglin Foodcourt

My bf brought me here one afternoon, to check on his client, and to dine at this pretty interesting stall in Tanglin Foodcourt that serves Aussie cuisine. Prices are slightly steeper than usual foodcourt prices. Mains are around $10, while i think this soup costs around $5.

Cream of mushroom: Very good, very mushroomy! After i had 1 bowl, i craved for another.

Picture of the stall: didn't take a good snapshot of the name of the stall, and i've clean forgotten it by the time i blog this ;)

I asked the lady to recommend: She says this steak is the most popular. So i went with it. It's pretty good for the $ i pay. Quality is better than what you can get in usual foodcourts.

Bf ordered some funny fish...was it some flat fish or the flaky Song fish. Hee, i've clean forgotten again. But it's really pretty well grilled.

Ba Kut Teh @ Opp Central

Went with my colleagues on my 1st visit - bcos the owner is the father my colleague's friend. It's pretty good, and walked past again one evening with my bf and he decided to try ( i've had my dinner already).

Ordered a pack of their Osmanthus tea, cos they ran out of the usual premade Chinese Tea. I've learnt the art of making tea, and at usual teahouse, they scoop only a small portion of tea leaves for the tea making, and discard it after about 3 rounds. But at Ba Kut Teh places, we're supposed to dump the ENTIRE pack of tea leaves into the pot! I'll usually use the 1st brew to wash the cups and discard the rest. But for the 2nd brew, it's really very strong. Then it gets milder and milder.

My bf ordered a bowl of Ba Kut Teh ( 龙骨 or dragon bone) which costs $8 per portion, and some stewed peanuts. The 龙骨 Ba Kut Teh is supposed to be slightly fatter than the usual.

I like the soup stock here. Yum!
If the prices are slightly lower, i'll surely be a regular here. Heh.

Cedele Depot @ Wheelock

When we crave for healthy food, we'll head to this Cedele restaurant in Wheelock. Very nice and healthy food! Strongly recommend this place!

Cream of apple & pumpkin. Very nice pumpkin taste with hints of apple sweetness and fragrance.

Bf's beef spaghetti. The beef is succulent and juicy. Yum!

My baked seabass with basil herb sauce on a bed of linguine.
The linguine is thoughtfully prepared with a tasty olive oil based dressing and the Seabass is crispy on the skin side, with a smoky aftertaste. Ohhh very delicious! :)

MORE PICTURES:
Cedele became one of the places we frequent for dinner, here's more pics taken on other occasions:

Baked Seabass with Asparagus and Potato Cakes.

Herb baked fish with Quinoa and greens. My bf's fave!

Traditional House of Desserts @ Smith Street

Went to visit a research agency Blackbox, and lunched with Meihua. She then brought me to this dessert place and recommend me this mango sago. Ooooo huge chunks of mango and it's oh so heavenly! Only regret is that it's a tat too sweet. Otherwise this $3.50 dessert is all worth the $!

Outback @ Millenia Walk

It has been sometime since we dined at Outback, i missed the breaded mushrooms so we headed there one evening.

Complimentary breadrolls skewed on a knife

Bf happily buttering his rolls

Yay, my fave MUSHROOMS. I used my fingers to pop these into my mouth :D

My bf's ribeye with loads of caramelized onions. Very good! I'm crazy about the steak and even crazier about the onions! :P

My babyribs! Ohhhh, it's slightly charred and crunchy.....Ooooo YUM! But sigh, too small for my appetite!

Kangarooo HOP!

Since our bill came to >$80, we can choose a complimentary dessert and i chose this. Vanilla ice-cream on a slice of Brownie, and drenched with choc syrup. Sinful!

Experion seminar @ fullerton

Haha. This is for comic relief.
As usual, our Joycelyn making her way to the complimentary snacks suppied by Experion. Boy, was she fast!

That said, greedy me took 2 char siew pastry :) It's very yummy!!

Sushi Tei @ Raffles City

Okay introducing my FAVE mass-market japanese chain restaurant! The quality of their sashimi and sushi is really quite different from Sakae Sushi! This visit is with my bf, i think :)

This is the entrance for the outlet @ raffles city: i always thought it looks like some funeral parlor. Heh.

Ordered the month's special: Clam in Sake. Nothing special actually.

Tuna, Swordfish & Salmon sahimi: Very good for a mass mkt jap place

Unagi & Avocado Maki stuffed with crispy King Prawn.

Closeup. YUM!

ANOTHER VISIT
Met up with Huimin to catch up on our lives :)

3 kinds of sashimi: Oh we ordered 4 pieces each and they served 3 pieces each (as in the picture). We only realised AFTER each of us ate a piece. Fortunately the kitchen remembered serving us 3 pieces instead of 4. Otherwise it's the waitress word against ours. Sigh.

Kani Nabemono: Hokkaido Crab Paper steamboat. The crab is quite pathetic with the slim legs. Not fresh and not sweet enough. The rest of the ingredients are fine. The waitress kindly refilled our stock and even changed the fire thingy for us. Very nice of her.
(Almost all the wait staff there are PRCs)

Mango and king prawn maki with prawn roe on top: Nice! But i still prefer Unagi. Just bcos i'm crazy over Unagi :D

Yes we ordered another Salmon Maki! Both of us had a hard time finishing the food. Burp! No space left for desserts :(

Botan @ Far East Square

Haha, one fine day when my boss is still away at reservist, some of us decided to have some nice lunch to gratify ourselves. hehe. Decided to drop by Botan after hearing some good reviews.

Special botan set ($25): Quite nice except for the sashimi which was very pungent, so i think it was not fresh! Eek! My first time eating a slice of smelly swordfish.
They have interesting add-ins like Snail as part of the Oden.

Sushi & Cold soba set: Sushi looks a bit pathetic and not fresh either. Cold soba can't go wrong.

Some funny thick noodles soup. Had expected to be like fatter soba with usual udon ingredients, but turn out to be like a chinese dish, despite the waitress strong recommendation. Goodness, it's full of cabbage. At least i hope it's healthy.

Pret a Manger @ Tanjong Pagar

Met up with Cornelius and Kailing for lunch here.

I had a hummus sandwich and a red pepper soup. The crab salad is nice!

double boiled soup @ raffles city

Spent about $8 on this set meal in the foodcourt @ raffles city. It's very worth it -- cos i was craving for comfort food, and this fits the bill well esp the lotus root soup. The chicken & chinese sausage rice is quite nice too.

Omu rice @ Bishan

Was lunching with my church frens after sunday service - we spotted this new stall @ the J8 foodcourt and decided to give it a try. I ordered grilled salmon with the omelette-wrapped rice. Salmon is ok, but the 'burnt rice' with red wine sauce is pathetic. Anyway don't think it's value for money.

Dan Ryan's @ Tanglin

My bf is soooo sweet to me this day: it was past lunch hour and he insisted on bringing me to a nice relaxing place for a meal. So he brought me to Dan Ryan's cos it is whole day dining and i haven't been there for quite a while.

My bf holding the menu.

Basket of complimentary bread, muffin and cake.
For a moment i thought we would both be full after eating these for hi-tea!

Interior

I was quite full so i ordered maryland crabcakes. It was pretty good, but i'm actually not a lover of crabcakes - which taste somewhat like compact Tuna Spread. Heh. Oh, but my bf enjoys ther crabcakes very much! I adored the fries.

Grilled Rainbow trout on rounds of grilled potatoes. This is pretty yummy!

Mooooose

Curry rice @ Velocity

Went to visit Alan's baby girl @ Thomson Medical and my friends suggested to go to the foodcourt @ Velocity. I was damn hungry and to avoid queueing, i decided to have the Curry rice, as the dishes look pretty decent.

I saw an interesting dish but i couldn't figure out what the meat was - so i did the natural and asked the guy. He said it's Pork with Crispy oats and to my amazement, he says it's nice and gave to me FOC. Result: i had 4 dishs and paid about $3. Heh. Thanks for the free food! :P

Pushcart Icecream @ Clarke Quay

Ohh, haha. It has been soooooo long since i had ice-cream from a push cart. It's rather nostalgic, reminding me of secondary school days where the uncle will sell us ice-cream near our school at $0.50 per cup. Ohhh, those were the days. Well, since this cart is parked at the snazzy Clarke Quay (and it's almost a decade from those sec sch days), my bf ended up paying $1.50 for it!

Oh by the way, this is really yummy! It's atap chee, chocolate and coconut i think. Very nice!

Thunder Tea Rice @ China Square

Thunder Tea Rice is a traditional hakka dish, eaten with the bowl of 'algae-looking' soup poured over the mixed vegetables rice. This outlet @ China Square serves one of the best version i've tasted, and somehow the business at their branches in Vivocity & Amoy Food Centre pale in comparison.
Oh by the way, the 'algae-looking' concoction ( as my colleagues put it) is actually made with Green Tea, Basil, Mint, Fuliksum, Chinese Parsley, Coriander, Ginger, Ngal & Sesame.

Oh, the concoction can be rather strong for most 1st timers. But you'll soon find that it's an acquired taste and you'll be able to ask for a stronger than usual dose of the concoction, and pour it over the rice. Yum! OOoooooO, i LOVE it! :) And it's healthy too!

Mum's Pig Stomach Soup

Stemming from Nonya's lineage, my mum's a pretty good cook, esp with all the nonya dishes. But this non-nonya dish got my bf raving so i took a pic for remembrance.

Mum's Pig Stomach Soup. She took almost an entire day to 'clean' the stomach and 'sanitize' it. And it's cooked with fresh stomach, not frozen. For this i avoid eating this soup outside, and patronize only my mum's! yum!

The Viet Inspired Deli @ Raffles City

Since it's opening last year, i've gingerly gave it a try and was hooked on its Baguettes - both the ham & pate version and the grilled chicken one. The baguette is crisp, and bursting with flavors due to its stuffings!

Their latest bundle promo: Soda Chanh (lemon soda with a sour plum) free with any baguette

This features grilled chicken baguette.

I like their pungent pate baguette equally :)
