Hongkong Cafe @ Katong

I believe this will be my frequent dining place after i move house -- a 24hr HK cafe @ Katong. The prices are all very reasonable and the variety is simply amazing - think there must be at least 400 dishes available!

The desserts are pretty good too:
I like this Mango dessert with black glutinous rice and vanilla ice cream! :D

the Sage @ Robertson Walk

My bf wanted to give me a surprise for Vday dinner so he did not tell me beforehand what and where we were going for dinner. I was surprised we parked at UE Square and i thought we were heading towards one of the Jap restaurants along Robertson Quay, since we frequented this place very often for the Jap cuisine. But to my surprise he led me to the 2nd floor of R.Walk and i felt very queer- as i don't recall there's any eateries on the 2nd floor.

To my surprise, tucked away in an inconspicuous corner is this small restaurant called The Sage. Apparently he has done some research - he heard of raved reviews on their foie gras- and even came here prior to the event to ensure he got the place right. So sweet of him! :)

We were shown to our seats and they offered only the vday degustation menu - it's fusion french: (Sorry i can't recall the exact menu....)

Warmly baked bread with butter: Crusty, but normal.

Scottish Salmon: It's salmon topped with buffalo mozarella in some cauliflower sauce.
Boy i was impressed by the elaborate display of tastes and aesthetics.

House champagne: okay la, pretty good :)

Tried to use flash to take pictures....so it's now brighter.
This is very yummy! It's threadfin topped with parsley/leek compote and an oyster , laced with mushroom consomme. Very interesting versus the usual mum's way of cooking threadfin.

Foie Gras: Need i say anymore?!
Just look and you can't help salivating!
Pan fried foie gras with caramelised granny smith apples, poached walnuts and Muscat reduction. It's crisp on the outside and it melts on the inside.
Wow i'm truly convinced when they say this is the place to go for heavenly foie gras!
And it comes in a pretty decent serving size too!
The lady owner personally served this dish to us and casually chatted with us. Pretty nice of her!

Veal: Tenderloin of veal wrapped in proscuitto di parma in black truffle sauce. this is also very well executed, and i like the touch of the navel orange on top of the veal :)

Creme caramel with fig and vanilla bean/caramel ice cream.
I like the ice cream - reminds me of the one from Gelato!

Usual tea/coffee. I had camomile tea, perfect for relaxation after a most satisfying dinner.
One that's not too full nor too hungry. Portion is just perfect.

The bill came up to about $400. But well, i guess it's also becos it's a Vday dinner ;)
I'm truly happy....and satisfied.

Gangnaroo Korean Restaurant @ Circular Road

Not sure if the name's Gangnaroo, but it's the only Korean outlet @ circular road. It's run by a korean couple.

Okay Felix invited Poopoo and myself to lunch on Vday, out of gratitude for us being his erm, 'counsellors for his hot dates'. hahah, will leave it as such.

okay i took this picture becos i just said i wanted to have this ginseng chicken soup that costs $45-$80 and he didn't flinch! ( Background a bit: he's a stingy....no i mean....thrifty guy.....).
Haha, but of cos we decided not to bully him and ordered something more affordable:

Seafood Pancake: Pretty nice! But huge portion. It comes with some vinegrette dip.

Beef hotplate: okay normal. the little dishes are complimentary, common practice in korean restaurants.

Ginseng chicken soup: okay i ordered the cheaper version. think about $20. It's pretty good!
Since Felix gobbled up more than half of the chicken!

Bill came up to be about $20 per person only (of cos it's his treat), but it's very satisfying meal for the $. Comfort food. Nice :)

Bao Today @ Marina Sq

We came to Marina Sq after work one day, and as we both were relatively full, we decided to have a light meal @ Bao Today.

Deep fried Mango & Shrimp parcel - this is very nice since they deep fry for us upon ordering.

Shrimp Chee Cheong Fun - haha, this is one of my FAVE tim sum dishes. so again, i'm very partial.... This is yummy! But i still prefer the one @ old airport road for the quality-price ratio.

Our light dinner continues with fish congee (so-so), some meat bao in black sesame skin (s0-s0 that's why i can't even remember the filling), and steam lotus glutinous rice (this is good...soft and moist. i had it before and i like it....so here i ordered again).

some tau pok with minced meat and shrimps: so-so

I wonder if i ordered too much for our 'light' dinner since we couldn't finish the food.
Overall it was quite nice - some hits and misses. But i'll definitely head to an authentic tim sum restaurant for a more authentic experience and better range. Nonetheless, i'll be back for their black sesame filling buns (which is not featured here), i like those pretty much but it's a tat expensive for the price.

Chocolates

Okay sidetrack.

Some chocos my bf got for me from Japan.
It's REALLY rare that he bought stuff for me during a biz trip - so i took a picture of it in appreciation. hahahahha.

Udders Icecream @ Novena

We were slated to visit a newborn @ Thomson Medical at 5pm, and since it's only about 3pm, my bf decided to check out the availability of the massage outlets @ Novena/United Sq ( My Foot reflex & Wanyang respectively). On the way we spotted this Ice Cream parlor outside United Sq, and under the heat of the day, it's only natural we sought shelter in this oasis.

It was only a few months old and the guy-owner was very nice and invited us to taste the various premium and liquored flavors they offer.

This is lychee martini. One of their premium liquor flavors - slightly more expensive than their non-liquored flavors ( which has also very interesting flavors).
And this is not double scoop - this is ONE scoop. Cool right? :P

It comes with a Moomoo Cow biscuit. Hee. Though it's not very clearly captured on this pic.

Overall, think it's pricey but worth trying again. Since i'm VERY bias towards ice cream anyway :D
