The French Stall @ Serangoon Rd

After the episode at Le Bistrot, i yearn for french cuisine again, and it so happen that we were nearby this evening, we headed to TFS to give it a second chance ( my first was quite disappointing).

french onion soup: too diluted and unsatisfying :(
the bread on top was cold and the cheese barely even melted.

mussels in white wine: it's quite good BUT mussels not fresh

beef....ribeye? this is pretty good i must say, but the price is almost $30 i think. not cheap for a 'stall'.

this is today's special - seabass with sun-dried tomatoes.
okay i ordered this dish becos of the SUN-DRIED tomatoes. however, there were only some (not-so) fresh tomatoes. i wanted to ask the waitstaff abt it, but decided otherwise. just wanted to eat in peace.

chocolate profiteroles: came highly recommended by the wait staff.
it's pretty good, but the ice-cream were those of Wall's or Marigold.

Rating:d( the star is for the beef)

Cedele Depot @ Raffles City

Some quick bites:

my fave grilled vegetable sandwich!

HK Cafe @ Katong Rd

went to HK cafe for a casual meal after visiting our new house....

bf ordered this green chilli, green apple, celery, bitter gourd and cucumber drink.
it's bitter sweet and spicy at the same time....hmmm.....

ordered wanton kway teow soup since i'm having gastric.... it's really rather bland and light.
too bland for my liking, hence despite of stomach upset i decided to order something more savory.

bf ordered this black pepper horfun. quite good.

crispy pan-fried chee cheong fun - very nice with the sauce

black sesame pancake! usually it's red bean filling, but this is black sesame! nice...

Rating: dd (decent casual food)

Azabu Sabo Ice cream @ Central

we seldom have azabu sabo ice cream becos i'm a bigger fan of Haato - which gives much bigger portions at a much cheaper price. moreover the range and quality is slightly better too.

well, here's one of the few occasions we had azabu sabo:
some banana choco and sea salt flavor. ordered bcos the sea salt seems unique - ever tried salty ice cream? this is quite yummy :P

Pasta @ Golden Shoe Food Court

Many will head here for their Antipasti takeaway during lunchtime. I usually have their antipasti but decided to have a meatless Pesto pasta today. Gosh i waited for about half an hour :(
Will never order any pasta again.

Tonkichi @ Suntec

Bf went for a pretty major wisdom tooth operation just the day before, and he met me up for dinner after work. and guess what...he decided to dine at Tonkichi. i was horrified! but thanks to his superman dentist (which incidentally costs a BOMB), he was almost recovered though he still chews slowly and tactfully.

the mortar and pestle for pounding sesame that comes with every order of tonkichi original.

one of the restaurants that serve my fave houji-cha ( roasted green tea)

my tonkatsu :) think it's with curry....

my bf's tonkatsu....with refillable rice and salad

first time we ordered a dessert at tonkichi...my bf was in a dessert mood and the waitress is happy to promote this coffee jelly, which my bf absolutely loved it to bits ( and i just sat there watching him eat....cos i'm no fan of coffee).

forgot to review the tonkatsu here....it's one of the most decent i've ever had! juicy and tender for the meats and the portions are good!

TCC @ Raffles Link

Met LP for dinner after work near my workplace. We head to TCC @ Raffles Link since it was raining outside. Food is so-so but better than my past experiences, mabbe it was becos someone footed the bill this time. heh.

i ordered a grilled salmon.

he ordered some prawn spaghetti.

Mykonos Cafe & Grill @ OUB Centre

had lunch with poo & puma here.... the grilled chicken wraps and sandwiches are pretty good.
salads are however boring.

Le Bistrot @ Stadium Walk

It was my bf's bday and he wanted a simple meal.....so i made a reservation at this french bistro.
It's pretty nice and romantic but the wait staff accidentally smashed a glass onto my feet. he apologized and insisted on 'making up' to me. i politely declined and felt that is unnecessary since i did not suffer any injuries. however he still brought out 2 flutes of champagne as a gesture of apology.

we ordered 3 courses each - starter, main & dessert.

for starter, i ordered Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée: basically means french onion soup. this is a HUGE bowl of soup and one of the very best i've had! :D

Bf ordered Caviar du Pauvre (Poor Man's Caviar): it's 3 tiers consisting eggplant and garlic purée, chicken liver mousse and Pernod crème fraîche. it comes in a huge jar and if you could actually finish that, your stomach will have no space left for anything else :P Oh, and my bf LOVED it!

For mains, bf ordered Confit de Cuisses de Canard - duck leg confit.
It's very good - the skin is crisp! But it comes in 2 legs and that's a lot for us! ( we regrettedly finished less than 1 leg...and left the other untouched)

i ordered a Grilled Rack of Lamb encrusted in some herbs and nuts...again the portion is too big for me. I had it medium and it's pretty tender :)

for dessert, bf ordered Crème Brulée platter of three flavours: bourbon vanilla bean, elderflower and dark chocolate. Pretty good...

And i ordered something sinful and very devestating:
Grand Chocolat Chaud du Bistrot: Le Bistrot's signature Hot Chocolate: molten 72%
dark chocolate couverture, aged Trinadad rum and steamed milk, served with chocolate ice cream, macaron and Opera
Basically we get to mix our own concoction of choco, rum & milk. YUM! Oh and the macarons are fantastic! (for this dessert i add $8 to the set meal)

For a mere $55 per person for the set meal (excl top ups, drinks and taxes), this is very value for money!!

Rating: ddd (very value for money)

Waraku @ Cuppage

We usually go to waraku on saturday afternoons. And here's one of the review:

ordered a sashimi Aji mackeral for less than 10 bucks - good :)

Grilled pork with mustard - taste not as exciting as the presentation

Unagi pizza - don't let this fool you, the size is only as big as your palm :P

sushi - minced tuna (2 pcs) and sea eel (2 pieces)

funny noodle dessert - tastes like cold handmade noodles topped with red bean. hmm, i didn't like it cos too bland for me....but my bf finds it quite refreshing.

Rating: dd (this is one of our habitual hangouts)

Gloria Jeans @ Raffles City

went to Gloria Jeans for a cuppa after the ramen....

ordered a choco cake, coffee and some berry freezer. the berry drink is SUPER saccharine :(
i like the dark choco cake though :)

Sapporo Ramen Bishamon - Raffles City

I have been to this ramen place several times, mostly due to the reasonably-priced ramen. i have however heard many bad reviews of the ramen here, and i was rather surprised since i thought it is quite decent.

here goes:

this is their specialty ramen ($13.50)

this is shoyu ramen ( i'm quite a lover of shoyu ramen): $12.50 i think

Agedashi tofu $4

Noodles are springy

Egg is a tad too runny ( but i'm super lover of runny egg yolks! so i can forgive that)
Whites are soft and nice.

The char siew is super generous, this being the thickness of the meat! Nicely stewed and very tender.

Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao @ Bugis Junction

think i've done a review for this same restaurant before but different branch. well, there's the review:

my bf and i went Bugis Junction for dinner after work. Decided to have some comfort food.

This is their promotional Crispy Onion Pancake. Taste like crispy roti prata :P
I suddenly remembered i had this Crispy Onion Pancake in Beijing when i was very young - it's wrapped with egg & meat floss and stuff...super yummy! the only food i succumbed to buying from the street stalls....against all resistance and warnings. heh.

Chicken and wonton stewed in Shark Cartilage soup
Okay this is the stinkiest soup i've ever had in my life! It's least comforting and has a SUPER UBER strong fishy stench! I almost died eating this. For only the very 'acquired' tastebuds.

Pan-fried baos. This is quite okay....crispy on the bottom. The filling is pretty good.

Okay i dunno what this is - some deep fried mantou?
I got absolutely no recollection, except that it reminds me that this should go well with some chilli crab sauce :P

Overall, this dinner sucks. Mainly becos we veered from the tried and tested. It has nothing got to do with the branch - cos crystal jade is known for their consistent quality across branches.
